Job Opportunity: Mental Health Urgent Care Practitioner


The role of a mental health urgent care practitioner is to provide compassionate and person-centered assessments and timely care plans for patients attending the general hospital. This involves working at the interface between physical and psychological health, bringing knowledge and expertise to colleagues.


As an urgent care practitioner, you will undertake specialist and timely mental health assessments and treatment for patients. You will work with a wide range of problems, including self-harm, adjustment to illness, and physical and psychological co-morbidities.


Our team receives referrals from people with all sorts of problems, including those presenting to mental health services for the first time. We are looking for practitioners who are confident in managing common mental health problems and can bring their knowledge to colleagues through teaching sessions.


This is a challenging but rewarding role that offers an exciting opportunity for nurses, occupational therapists, or social workers with strong assessment and therapeutic skills.


As our urgent care pathway moves towards CORE 24 standards, the post-holder will work flexible hours to support delivery of 24/7 services. We offer a robust induction program through clinical supervision, coaching, and teamwork.

Job Responsibilities:



* Support the work of and across urgent care teams (Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team and The Haven)

* Undertake specialist and timely mental health assessments and treatment for patients

* Work with patients, carers, general hospital colleagues, and other parts of the health and social care system

* Develop and maintain excellent communication skills and foster relationships

* Work autonomously while contributing to the team as a whole

* Remain calm under pressure and adapt to quickly changing circumstances




Qualifications and Experience:


Registered Mental Nurse, Mentorship, ENB 998 or level 3 module in teaching and assessing in clinical practice


Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and DOL's, Knowledge of the MHA, years post-registration experience preferably with some urgent care experience
