About TRTS The Office of Teaching and Research Technical Services (TRTS) is a large organisation with over 100 staff divided into 5 clusters. The three teams within the Health Cluster provides specialist technical support to students and staff from the Schools of Health Sciences, Science, Medicine and Nursing and Midwifery. TRTS embraces a culture of continuous improvement to refine and enhance team processes and the student experience. About you and the role The Medical Science team is multi-disciplinary and as a Technical Support Officer you will support the learning and development of future scientists and health care professionals. Your primary focus will be providing the highest quality technical service in support of the School of Science for the Science and Medical Science undergraduate teaching programs and research activities, and support to the School of Medicine's research facilities. Technical Support Officers are responsible for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, for the purchasing of resources and minor equipment. You will collaborate with professional and academic staff to organise, prepare, and facilitate practical classes for teaching, as well as support research facilities, all while ensuring a safe work environment. Skills and Experience To be successful in this role you will require the following skills and experience: • Demonstrated experience in the provision of technical support related to a Microbiology, Medical Science, Biology, or Biomolecular Sciences laboratory. • Demonstrated experience in undergraduate technical support including preparing and setting up practical teaching places. • Demonstrated experience in maintaining laboratory workplaces with regards to biological and chemical management and inventory, ensuring compliance of OGTR Certified PC2 research laboratories. • Knowledge of requirements for laboratory safety such as Standard Operating Procedures, Risk Assessments, chemical safety, and biological waste disposal. • Demonstrated experience in the use and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation specific to a Medical Science, Biology, Microbiology or Biomolecular sciences laboratory. • You will be client focused, good problem solver with the ability to identify and implement solutions and can think innovatively.
