As the steward for digitally enabling Australia's health system, the Agency plays a key role in coordinating national engagement, delivery, and adoption of digital health to facilitate person-centred, connected healthcare. Our responsibilities span national digital health services and systems, including My Health Record, Electronic Prescriptions, and the 1800Medicare App.
About the Role
The Research, Analytics and Data Branch is seeking a Lead Data Scientist – Health and Analytics (EL1) for a full-time ongoing role. This is a senior technical leadership position for someone passionate about using data to improve health outcomes and shape digital health decision-making at a national level.
In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and expert guidance across complex data science, modelling and analytical initiatives, supporting evidence-based decision-making across the Agency. You will lead advanced analysis of health and digital health data, ensuring high standards of methodological rigour, quality assurance and analytical best practice.
A key part of the role is translating complex data and technical findings into clear, actionable insights for senior executives and stakeholders. You will play a critical role in strengthening the Agency's predictive analytics and benefits modelling capability, directly supporting priority digital health initiatives, as well as policy, program and evaluation activities that deliver real impact for the Australian community.
Skills and Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in data science, statistics, mathematics, economics, epidemiology, public health, health informatics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
* Demonstrated experience leading complex data science or analytical work within a health, digital health, or health-related policy, program or service delivery environment.
* Proven ability to provide technical leadership, ensuring methodological rigour, quality assurance and best-practice analytical approaches.
* Strong capability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for senior executives and stakeholders.
* Experience working with large-scale health, administrative or linked datasets.

Eligibility
Australian citizenship is mandatory. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a national police clearance and the required Baseline security clearance, with the ability to attain a higher-level clearance if needed.
Notes
Order of Merit: Applicants rated as suitable will be placed in a merit pool that may be used to fill similar ongoing or non-ongoing positions throughout the Agency for up to 18 months.
