Position Type: Volunteer / Small Stipend
Time Commitment: Board Meetings 10 times per year
Advocacy WA is a South West based not-for-profit agency, supporting people living with disability by informing people of their rights, advocating on their behalf, and supporting them in making informed decisions that impact on their quality of life.
Advocacy WA has been supporting individuals living with disability for over 30 years.
Purpose of the Role
The Chairperson provides strategic leadership to the Board and ensures effective governance, accountability, and compliance. The role champions the organisation's mission and ensures that the voices of people with disability remain central to all decision-making.
Essential Eligibility Requirement
This position requires lived experience of disability.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead the Board and ensure strong governance, values alignment, and compliance
* Chair Board meetings effectively
* Work collaboratively with the CEO on strategic direction
* Represent the organisation at events and with stakeholder engagement
* Ensure the organisation remains person-centred, inclusive, and rights-based
* Support Board development and succession planning
* Act as a public advocate for people with disability
Selection Criteria
* Identify as a person living with disability
* Demonstrated leadership experience (Board, senior management or community leadership)
* Strong understanding of governance principles
* Demonstrated high level communication skills and emotional intelligence
* Ability to chair meetings and facilitate respectful, inclusive discussion
* Strategic thinking and sound decision-making skills
* Commitment to disability rights, inclusion, and advocacy
* Previous experience as a Board Chair or Deputy Chair
* Knowledge of disability advocacy and/or not-for-profit sector
* Experience working with government, funders, or community stakeholders
* Financial literacy or experience overseeing organisational budgets
