Deflector Operation consists of two high-grade, narrow vein Gold/Copper mines, located 160km east of Geraldton. The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes, namely the Deflector and Deflector South West deposits.
Reporting to the OSH&T Manager, the OHST Advisor will provide expert advice, guidance, and support to ensure compliance with all occupational health, safety, and training requirements within a mining environment. This role works closely with operational leaders, contractors, and employees to promote a strong safety culture, minimise risk, and ensure training competencies are maintained in accordance with legislative, company, and site requirements.
This position will be offered on an 8:6 roster FIFO from Perth.
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
* Deliver theory and practical training on the safe and efficient operation of various underground mining equipment.
* Assess operator competency against site standards and regulatory requirements and issue appropriate licences or authorisations.
* Conduct inductions and assist with the onboarding of new personnel into the underground mining environment.
* Develop new training materials and update existing programs and procedures to ensure they meet current and future needs and regulatory compliance.
* Maintain accurate records of trainee progress and training activities.
* Conduct and/or participate in risk assessments of site work activities and conditions, including high risk tasks and shutdown activities.
* Monitor the completion of recommendations and actions from incident investigations, inspections and audits.
* Provide advice and support to site in the implementation of OHST policies and procedures.
* Assist with accident/incident investigations.
* Provide specialist advice on workplace training and instruction matters to ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and Australian and company standards.
* Conduct workplace inspections, verification audits, hazard identification, and risk assessments, and recommend corrective actions.
* Assist with maintaining and reviewing the site Safety Management System (SMS), relevant Management Plans and associated procedures.
About You
* Previous experience in a similar position within an Underground Mining environment.
* Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent) is essential and Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (preferred).
* Experience in facilitating training and verifying competency.
* Strong communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
* Strong understanding of WHS legislation, training and risk management principles.
* Experience with incident investigation methodologies, (e.g., ICAM).
* Proficient in OHST management systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with other programs which include INX and Pronto.
* Hold a WA Driver's Licence (manual C Class).
