Building Designer
Design Australia Group | Southport, Gold Coast
Full-time | Permanent | Office-based
(Residential Building Design | ArchiCAD | Builder-Facing | Gold Coast)
-----------------------------------
Not a junior role.
And not a "set-in-their-ways" senior role either.
Design Australia Group is a nationally recognised residential building design firm working directly with volume and developer builders across Australia. We operate at scale, with structure, consistency, and clear expectations — because that's how builder projects actually get delivered.
We're looking for a Building Designer who sits confidently in the middle:
experienced enough to deliver independently, adaptable enough to work within systems, and practical enough to keep jobs moving in a fast, builder-facing environment.
If you enjoy residential documentation, builder workflows, and seeing your work get built, this will feel like a strong fit.
-----------------------------------
The Role (What You'll Actually Be Doing)
You'll work across live residential builder projects, delivering design and documentation with accuracy, consistency, and pace.
This role exists to produce quality outcomes within established systems — not to reinvent the wheel on every job.
You will:
* Produce and coordinate residential designs and documentation in ArchiCAD
* Prepare concept, preliminary, and working drawings for builder clients
* Manage revisions, variations, and mark-ups with discipline
* Work within established templates, SOPs, and QA checklists
* Liaise internally with design, admin, and operations to keep jobs moving
* Identify issues early and communicate clearly to avoid rework
* Maintain documentation accuracy across multiple concurrent jobs
This is a delivery role — not theory, not ego, not chaos.
-----------------------------------
What We're Looking For
Experience
* Typically 3–6 years' experience in residential building design or documentation
* Experience working with builders, developer-led, or repeatable housing projects
* Comfortable operating in deadline-driven, structured workflows
Capability
* Strong ArchiCAD proficiency (non-negotiable)
* Solid understanding of residential construction documentation
* Confident producing plans, sections, elevations, and schedules
* High attention to detail without over-engineering
* Comfortable receiving feedback and adjusting quickly
Style
* Calm, organised, and accountable
* Practical and solutions-focused
* Team-first mindset (no prima donnas, no cowboys)
* Open to structure, systems, and continuous improvement
-----------------------------------
Why This Role Works
* Builder-facing work with clear systems and standards
* Real volume and repetition (you'll get very good, very fast)
* Strong operational support — no admin or process chaos
* Long-term role in a growing national firm
* Progression without needing to "outgrow" the business
