Outstanding senior in‐house legal leadership opportunity for an experienced lawyer to join a large, complex and highly regarded organisation in a pivotal Director role. This position will lead a specialist legal team and provide strategic advice across conduct, regulatory, compliance, disputes, information requests and legal operations.
This is a rare opportunity for a senior lawyer with strong people leadership capability to step into a broad, visible role, working closely with the General Counsel, senior executives, and key internal stakeholders on high-impact legal matters across a large and sophisticated operating environment.

The legal function works closely with executive leadership to provide strategic legal advice, manage legal risk and support major organisational objectives. This role sits within a collaborative and high-performing in‐house team and offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of sensitive, significant and business‐critical matters.
The Role
As Director, Conduct & Regulatory Law, you will lead a specialist legal team responsible for delivering strategic and day‐to‐day advice across a diverse portfolio, including:
People and conduct matters
Regulatory and compliance issues
Disputes and dispute resolution
Requests for information, privacy and subpoena matters
Service‐related commercial matters
Legal operations, triage and reporting
You will work closely with the General Counsel and broader legal leadership team to help shape legal strategy, allocate work, improve legal operations and support the effective management of legal risk across the organisation. The role also involves leading and mentoring a team of lawyers and legal support staff.
Key responsibilities
Lead and manage the Conduct and Regulatory legal team, including mentoring and development of junior and mid‐level lawyers
Provide strategic legal advice to senior executives and business leaders on complex conduct, regulatory and disputes matters
Oversee the management of people‐related disputes, litigation, tribunal matters, mediations and investigations
Advise on compliance with relevant laws, regulations, standards and internal policy frameworks
Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures and risk mitigation strategies
Oversee legal aspects of information requests, privacy issues, subpoenas and related regulatory matters
Partner with internal stakeholders on strategic projects and organisation‐wide initiatives
Manage external counsel and other external legal service providers where required
Contribute to legal operations, triage, reporting and continuous improvement across the legal function
Support the General Counsel on legal strategy, practice management and leadership initiatives

About You
To be successful in this role, you will likely bring:
Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner
Approximately 10+ years' post‐admission experience, or similar seniority, gained in‐house, private practice or a combination of both
Strong experience across some or all of the following: conduct, regulatory, compliance, disputes, employment, investigations, information requests, privacy or administrative law
Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop legal practitioners
Experience advising senior stakeholders in a large, complex organisation
Strong judgement, commerciality and the ability to balance legal risk with organisational objectives
Excellent communication, drafting and stakeholder management skills
A practical, proactive and solutions‐focused approach
Strong organisational capability, including the ability to manage competing priorities in a high‐volume environment
The confidence and maturity to handle sensitive, high‐impact matters with discretion and sound judgement
Candidates with experience in other complex, regulated environments will be well regarded.
