The Role
This General Counsel is a key member of our executive team, offering strategic legal counsel to colleagues and reporting directly to the Group General Counsel. You will play a crucial role in collaborating with our risk and compliance functions, providing expert advice on strategic and operational risks and reporting on strategic legal matters to the Board of Directors. Suitable for a highly accomplished legal executive ready to take on a pivotal leadership role within dynamic and rapidly growing businesses, Compare the Market and iSelect.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop a high-performing in-house legal team across Brisbane and Melbourne.
* Designing and managing the legal service delivery strategy.
* End-to-end management of commercial contracts.
* Legal advice and due diligence for major investments and projects.
* Develop strong frameworks to provide appropriate oversight of promotional, advertising, and editorial materials.
* Protection and management of the business's intellectual property.
* Advising on and managing disputes and regulatory matters.
* Monitoring and implementing legislative developments.
* Developing efficient legal team processes and reporting tools.
* Managing relationships with external legal partners.
* Act as a trusted senior advisor to the executive leadership team.
* Collaborate closely with Risk and Compliance to embed a robust risk management framework, focusing on legal strategic and operational risks.

You are an exceptional in-house legal professional and an inspiring executive leader. You possess a proven track record in driving performance, fostering a positive workplace culture, and excelling in strategic planning and team management. With strong commercial acumen, you are dedicated to continuous improvement and effective risk mitigation. You adeptly navigate complex legal issues, communicate with gravitas, and implement robust legal frameworks that champion business objectives.
Skills & Experience
* Bachelor of Laws with a minimum of 10 years' Post-Qualification Experience, ideally combining top-tier law firm and prior in-house experience.
* Demonstrated strong leadership and engagement skills.
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
* Superior communication, influencing, and negotiation skills.
* Proven ability to build effective relationships with senior managers and key stakeholders.
* High-impact presentation skills and strategic thinking capability.
* Experience in financial services is highly regarded but not essential.
