The Paediatric Medical Unit at Cairns Hospital is a dynamic and supportive clinical environment committed to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care to children and adolescents across Far North Queensland. The unit has a strong focus on collaboration, education and workforce development, providing an engaging setting for clinicians with an interest in both clinical excellence and medical education. With close links to James Cook University, the unit plays an integral role in undergraduate teaching and training, fostering a culture of learning, supervision and professional growth. Staff within the unit are supported by experienced senior clinicians and work as part of a multidisciplinary team that values teamwork, leadership and continuous improvement in paediatric care.
The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.

About your role as the JCU Paediatric Academic Registrar:
* Appointment as an Academic Registrar supports the development of skills in research, teaching, project work, professional development, and critical thinking, under supervision over a 6 or 12-month period.
* Providing feedback on students' performances such as through formal assessment of medical students through clinical examinations and marking of written work.
* Participate in regular departmental meetings and participation in other academic activities as discussed with the nominated supervisor, some of which may be outside of regular working hours or on the weekends.
About your role as a Clinical Registrar in Paediatrics:
* Contribute to quality patient care by participation in case planning which includes appropriate pre-admission planning, in-hospital care and discharge planning.
* Maintain good communications with all areas and disciplines within the health service and with local medical practitioners to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the hospital.
* Supervise the day-to-day activities of junior medical staff to ensure that appropriate standards of care are maintained and that junior medical staff are trained to adequately fulfil their duties.
