In-House Legal Counsel – Transactions & Investments A rare opportunity to move in-house into a genuinely commercial role within a fast-growing investment platform. Our client is the Australian and New Zealand arm of a global investment management group headquartered in Brisbane. The business invests in and operates a diverse portfolio of real assets and operating platforms across ANZ and offshore markets and continues to expand through acquisitions and strategic investment activity. As the organisation grows, the legal team is expanding to support ongoing investment, governance and commercial activity across the group. The role Reporting directly to an approachable and highly regarded General Counsel (ex top-tier), this is a broad in-house role offering exposure well beyond what most lawyers see at this level. Working closely with the investment team and senior management, you will become involved in a wide mix of transactional, commercial and governance matters across the group’s expanding portfolio of businesses. The work is varied and genuinely commercial in nature and will likely include: supporting acquisitions, investments and platform expansion activity across ANZ and offshore markets drafting and advising on investment, shareholder and commercial agreements providing day-to-day corporate and commercial advice across the group assisting with board and committee papers, meetings and governance processes working closely with external advisers on transactions and strategic projects You will also take on Assistant Company Secretary responsibilities, providing regular involvement in board and committee processes and exposure to strategic decision-making within the business. This is the type of role where you gain a genuine understanding of how investment decisions are made inside a business. About you You will likely have around 3–5 years’ PAE and experience gained in areas such as corporate/M&A, commercial, property, finance or investment-related work, either in private practice or in-house. You will also bring: strong technical training and sound commercial judgement the ability to work directly with senior stakeholders a pragmatic and solutions-focused approach to legal issues This role would suit a lawyer who enjoys being close to the commercial side of transactions and wants to broaden their exposure within an investment-driven organisation.
