About the team
The Division
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) Division is an exciting, fast-paced division that drives the digital agenda for the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. Leading the delivery of the department’s digital offerings, the CIO Division partners with business areas and stakeholders to:
- Realise the digital policy objectives of the Department.
- Define the Departments digital landscape.
- Drive the innovation and transformation of its IT services.
The Branch
The ICT Operations Branch is one of 4 branches within the CIO Division and is responsible for the management and deployment of all ICT services to support the running of the organisation.
The Section
Our End User Services (EUS) Level 3 team is responsible for the advanced management, support, and continuous improvement of our end-user computing environment. We don’t just keep the lights on, we engineer, administer, and troubleshoot the systems and technologies that enable thousands of staff to work productively and securely, whether in the office or remotely.
Our responsibilities span a variety of areas, specialising in full lifecycle management of following core functions, and associated technologies:
- Device management and endpoint security (Intune, SCCM, Group Policy, Conditional Access, iOS/Android MDM/MAM).
- Application packaging, deployment, and lifecycle management (App-V, Patch My PC, Software Centre, Intune).
- Communication and collaboration platform administration (Exchange Online/On-Prem, Enterprise Vault, Janusseal, MPIP, Microsoft Teams, M365 Office suite, OneDrive, Evoko).
- Incident response, technical support, and troubleshooting for escalated issues.
- Remote access enablement and support (Always On VPN, Citrix NetScaler, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop).
- Security component management (BitLocker, Windows Hello for Business, Client support only - MS Defender, Netskope, Airlock Digital).
- Standard Operating Environment management and compliance (Windows 10/11, SOE builds).
- Vulnerability management and cyber security compliance (Essential 8, PSPF, ISM, reporting dashboards, compliance frameworks, patching).
Our team uses a matrix-style team structure with a manager, assistant manager, two team leaders, and multiple EUC Engineers, where work is owned by the entire section. The leadership cohort oversee and allocate delivery collectively, aiming to prevent siloing, allowing flexible allocation of tasks, ensuring balanced workloads, and strengthening collaboration and resilience across the team. What you will do
Operating in accordance with the Australian Public Service Commission’s Work Level Standards (WLS) and Integrated Leadership System (ILS), as an EL1 Team Leader, you will:
- Provide leadership and direction to a geographically dispersed team, setting expectations, assuring quality, and managing risks with a high degree of independence.
- Manage people and performance by fostering a positive, inclusive culture, supporting wellbeing, and developing capability through coaching and feedback.
- Plan and coordinate team delivery by prioritising tasks, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring timely completion of work to meet objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement by leveraging data and stakeholder feedback to enhance processes and service delivery.
- Regularly facilitate discussions, forming consensus on key decisions and approaches, whilst exercising sound judgement to make decisions on complex issues.
- Represent your team in governance forums, including Architectural Review Board, Change Advisory Board, Problem and Incident Management, ticket system review, cross divisional boards for ICT and more.
- Communicate with clarity and impact, tailoring advice and reporting to diverse audiences (technical, non-technical and Executive) to support comprehension and delivery objectives.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Experience in a similar role within a technical team, or technical knowledge in 1 or more of the core functions of the team.
