Primary objective
The Principal, School Sport Education NT (SSENT) is the leading educational professional representing the Northern Territory,
Department of Education and Training in Australian student sporting landscapes and is responsible for the Executive Officer
functions of School Sport NT Incorporated Association.

Context statement
SSENT provides sport and physical education related services to all government schools across the Northern Territory, offering
teaching, learning and engagement opportunities for students and support for educators from a diverse range of contexts.
Through the SSNT, representative opportunities are made possible for students at inter-region and interstate programs and
represents the Territory in national and cross-jurisdictional sporting forums.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the vision and strategy for Sport Education and School Sport NT in line with Department of Education and Training

Strategic Plan translating vision to plans and actions to achieve results.
2. Champion sport and physical education opportunities for all students across the Northern Territory.
3. Developing and maintaining comprehensive networks and relationship with government and non-government sectors, including

schools and sporting associations both within the Territory and interstate jurisdictions and through a representative body of
school leaders.

4. Be agile and flexible in embracing and dealing effectively with uncertain, complex and challenging contexts and work with others
to seek creative and innovative co-designed solutions that support quality outcomes linked to Australian Curriculum.

5. Effectively manage the SSNT through strong administrative, financial and governance capabilities as well as a passion for
facilitating sporting events and opportunities.

6. Ability to inspire volunteers and bring students and schools together across the NT.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven strategic leadership and contemporary management skills including management of human and financial resources and

ability to meet accountabilities of delivering program outcomes and meet legislative compliance obligations.
2. Detailed knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practices relevant to sport and physical education, with extensive knowledge

of Australian Curriculum and how achievement standards link to student outcomes.
3. High level of ability to negotiate, influence and communicate with diverse stakeholders, internally and externally, and people

from diverse cultures to ensure achievement of required outcomes.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage a high workload with constantly changing priorities; work autonomously and coordinate a

range of priorities to meet critical timelines and required outcomes.
5. Ability to deliver quality customer service with objectivity, impartiality and fairness and identify opportunities for continuous

improvement by exploring possibilities and cutting-edge alternatives.

Further information
The selected applicant must hold full Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory (TRB), current NT
Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) and driver’s licence or the ability to obtain prior to commencement. The role is office-
based conditions and will include work out of hours and may include remote travel.
