Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Haematology & Blood Transfusion
East Suffolk & North Essex NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology & Blood Transfusion team at Ipswich Hospital.
The laboratory is MHRA & UKAS compliant, IBMS accredited and committed to training and development of staff.
The role requires completion of a haematology specialist portfolio.
Qualified staff will join the out-of-hours roster, earning a night-rate enhancement for lone working.
The laboratory is equipped with Grifols, Sysmex XNs and ACL TOPS analysers; experience with these instruments is advantageous.
The department is part of the East Coast Pathology Network and operates Lab Centre as its LIMS.
Responsibilities
Maintain the quality management system and UKAS accreditation, train and supervise less experienced staff, validate and authorise results, and ensure a safe quality service for patients.
Resolve complex equipment or process problems and perform manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations, including specialist investigations, within defined service areas.
Participate in day-to-day management of stock control and usage, including maintaining Blood Transfusion stock levels, records and monitoring usage to ensure efficient use.
Contribute to the training and development of junior staff and support the service's commitment to continuous improvement and patient care.
Qualifications and Experience
Completed haematology specialist portfolio.
Experience in a UKAS-accredited laboratory and familiarity with MHRA regulations.
Knowledge of Grifols, Sysmex XNs, ACL TOPS analysers and Lab Centre LIMS is desirable.
