Commissioning Editor, Education

Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in shaping high-quality educational resources for a market-leading Australian publisher? Cambridge University Press, one of the most respected education publishers in the world, is seeking a Commissioning Editor to lead the development of new and revised resources for the Australian schools market.
In this full-time role, you will drive the creation of engaging, curriculum-aligned learning materials by commissioning authors, shaping content, and guiding projects from conception through to publication. Working closely with subject leads, authors, and cross-functional teams, you will play a central role in delivering innovative classroom resources that meet the evolving needs of teachers and students across Australia. This position suits an experienced educational publisher or someone with strong curriculum knowledge and a passion for producing exceptional learning materials.
Key Responsibilities
* Commission and manage print and digital publishing projects for the Australian schools market.
* Oversee projects from concept to publication, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
* Identify new publishing opportunities through market insights, curriculum changes, and customer feedback.
* Contribute to product strategy discussions and proposal development.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with authors and external partners, ensuring clear communication and expectations management.
* Review manuscripts, evaluate sample content, and provide detailed editorial feedback to ensure strong pedagogical direction.
* Conduct market research and monitor curriculum changes, teaching trends, and competitor activity to inform product decisions.
* Support Cambridge's presence at events, conferences, and school engagements.
About You
* Experience in teaching and/or educational publishing, with knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy.
* Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
* Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
* Proven ability to commission or develop educational content.
* A collaborative, innovative, and adaptable approach, with comfort working in digital environments.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
