Position Overview
* Status: Civil Pipe Layer
* Reports To: Site Supervisor
* Liaises With: Site crew, machine operators, subcontractors, clients, and administration team
* Hours: Typically 700am – 3.30pm, with flexibility depending on project requirements
* Pay: Competitive, based on skills and experience
Role Summary
This role involves installing, repairing, and retrofitting sewer pipelines and access chambers safely and to specification. You will support efficient site operations, ensure quality workmanship, and contribute to delivering projects on time and to standard. Strong collaboration, attention to safety, and pride in workmanship are essential to maintaining reliable infrastructure and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities (Sewer – Civil Maintenance)
* Arrive on site prepared with PPE, tools, and pre-start checks.
* Safely locate, expose, and excavate around sewer assets using correct practices.
* Perform repairs, replacements, and maintenance on damaged pipes, blockages, and collapsed sections.
* Install new pipework to correct grade, alignment, and bedding standards.
* Maintain safe excavation using trench shoring, boxes, or benching.
* Collaborate with excavator operators for efficient digging and backfilling.
* Identify faults and report repair requirements clearly to the Foreman.
* Reinstate sites with proper compaction, backfill, turf, or surface restoration.
* Follow SWMS, WHS, and confined space procedures at all times.
* Set up barriers, signage, and traffic control to ensure public safety.
* Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles, reporting issues promptly.
* Record daily activities, repairs, photos, and timesheets in the job system.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, teammates, operators, and stakeholders.
* Conduct testing of repaired sections (e.g., water testing, CCTV).
* Keep work areas clean and safe throughout shifts.
* Support and mentor apprentices or labourers in safe work practices.
