We are seeking a Laboratory Manager to join our growing team based in Townsville. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to drive laboratory performance, quality assurance and continuous improvement across our asphalt and associated materials operations.
You will play a key role in leading laboratory activities and supporting the interface between production, surfacing and technical teams.
This role would suit someone who is highly motivated, practical in their approach, and committed to building a positive, high‐performing culture.
It may also suit a candidate from an engineering or technical background with relevant industry experience.
Areas of responsibility include:
* Leading day‐to‐day laboratory operations to ensure efficient and effective performance across North Queensland.
* Overseeing NATA and TMR CMT compliance across asphalt, quarry, soils and binder laboratory activities.
* Ensuring accurate and timely test reporting, quality assurance outcomes, and ongoing mix design and batch card management.
* Driving continuous improvement, lean initiatives, safety practices and corrective actions to lift quality and performance.
* Liaising with suppliers, clients and internal stakeholders on technical, quality and project delivery matters.
* Leading team capability, laboratory resourcing, facilities, equipment and budget/CAPEX planning in conjunction with the Technical Manager.
* Supporting technical problem‐solving and the delivery of practical outcomes across laboratory and operational interfaces.
How will you connect to the role:
This role will suit an experienced candidate with strong leadership capability, sound technical knowledge, and a proven background in laboratory, construction materials, asphalt, quarry, soils or related operational environments.
You will ideally bring:
* Demonstrated ability to lead people, drive performance and support team development.
* Strong attention to detail, communication skills and a proactive approach to problem‐solving.
* Relevant industry knowledge, with experience in asphalt materials, plant, surfacing, soils or construction materials preferred but not essential.
* Understanding of production testing and onsite sampling practices, including the ability to provide informed oversight and support to laboratory and operational teams.
* Understanding of Queensland test methods, NATA requirements and Australian Standards for laboratory operations would be highly regarded.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, science or a related field, and/or a Certificate IV in Laboratory Operations or higher.
Please note:
This position will require travel to Mackay, Gladstone and Rockhampton sites. You may also be required to travel to other sites from time to time.
