The Data, Evaluation and Behavioural Insights Branch has a strong focus on delivery of outcomes and works to improve decision-making and policy development by strengthening the department's evidence base. Leading in expertise and knowledge on issues related to data analytics, data science, data governance, economics, behavioural insights and program evaluation, we are flexible, influential and collaborative.
Our branch is seeking a high-performing and motivated Director to lead the department's evaluation team that supports delivery of best practice evaluations and uplifting evaluation capability across the department. As a senior leader in the team, you will drive delivery of evaluation projects and set the vision, strategy and frameworks to shape and embed high-quality evaluation across the department. You will gain first-hand experience working on evaluation practices to underpin sound public policy across the department in a complex and diverse stakeholder environment. Key Responsibilities:
* supports the department to draw on evidence and use findings from evaluations to inform the development of future policy proposals
* identifies what will be done to monitor success, make changes to programs to improve success and identify how lessons learned will be applied to future policy proposals
* provides strategic direction of the evaluation team and maintains strategic oversight of evaluation activities in the department
* conducts a limited number of priority in-house evaluations each year
* set the vision, strategy and frameworks to support high-quality evaluations
* invests in uplifting the department's evaluation capability and maturity
* builds partnerships and collaborates to ensure that evaluative thinking is embedded in the department's work
* communicates evaluation findings effectively across technical and non-technical audiences, including presenting to senior executive stakeholders
* contributes to the department's performance reporting activities.

* be able to lead a program of work that continues to build on our successes and the capability of staff across the organisation
* work independently and strategically while contributing to a highly collaborative team environment
* demonstrate initiative, resilience and professionalism in a dynamic environment
* have experience in project management of evaluation projects including coordinating tasks, prioritising competing demands and ability to work to agreed timelines
* have highly developed communication skills with a proven ability to negotiate and communicate with influence.
Additionally, it would be desirable to have:
* experience and/or academic qualifications in evaluation approaches and methods
* experience in undertaking research, data analysis, and evaluation of policies impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
* experience delivering capability uplift, coaching junior staff and embedding evaluation in business workflows.
