Job Title: Nursing Practice Specialist
General Overview
The Blake 12 Multidisciplinary ICU is an 18-bed intensive care unit that provides care for adult patients with a variety of surgical and medical conditions, including transplant and trauma patients.
Clinical Practice
* Expert-Level Consultation:
o Provides expert-level consultation to clinical staff on diagnosis and treatment plans for patients and families.
o Analyzes clinical and non-clinical variables to influence patient care needs and predict responses.
o Identifies current trends in healthcare and their implications for nursing practice.
* Direct Patient Care:
o Initiates, facilitates, coordinates, and manages interdisciplinary collaboration for direct patient care.
o Supports staff at the bedside in an expanded role to provide real-time teaching and education.
Education
* Staff Education:
o Plans and delivers relevant staff education on matters regarding patient care.
o Develops and implements programs for patient education within the area of specialization.
* Patient Education:
o Facilitates acquisition of advanced clinical skills in staff nurses and students through role modeling, practice, and consultation.
Research and Evidence-Based Practice
* Nursing Research:
o Actively participates in research activities that positively affect patient care and outcomes.
o Uses nursing theories, research findings, and evidence-based practice to plan, design, and evaluate nursing practice.
* Evidence-Based Practice:
o Promotes staff utilization of the research process.
o Participates in and supports research initiatives.
Professional Development
* Ongoing Personal/Professional Development:
o Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing practices.
