Overview

The multi‑Oscar‑winning creative Film & Episodic Studio at Framestore has worked with some of the greatest storytellers in film today. Collaborating with directors and producers across the complete filmmaking process, we help design, plan and create beautiful images, finding innovative creative solutions to support their vision and set new standards for visual effects in cinema.

Framestore combines talent and technology to bring life to everything we create. Driven by creativity and inspired by the future, we set out every day to reframe the possible.

As a Department Manager at Framestore, you will play a vital role in building, supporting and retaining top‑tier talent across our artist and production teams for VFX projects. You'll ensure projects are appropriately resourced, coordinate cross‑functional communication and manage departmental operations with a focus on efficiency and people‑first leadership.

Responsibilities

* Resource Management – Partner with Heads of Department, Producers and Supervisors to allocate the best internal talent to VFX projects, optimise crew assignments across multiple shows, manage multi‑site communication between global divisions and ensure unallocated crew can be utilised.

* Planning and Scheduling – Support the Head of Department in building balanced project teams, considering expertise, experience and budget, allocating and planning for upcoming project demands, induction and staff development.

* Strategic Recruitment – Identify hiring needs, advise on remuneration and collaborate with the recruitment team to bring in the right talent.

* Project Communication – Serve as the main point of contact between the department and show production teams regarding the progress of the work, maintaining ongoing communication with show coordinators and line producers about resource availability and shifting priorities.

* People Leadership – Foster a supportive and inclusive work environment, promoting high morale through regular team check‑ins, social events and team‑building activities. Advise on contractual matters, project assignments, development and training, proactively addressing concerns and supporting wellbeing.

* Performance and Development – Create a culture of feedback alongside the Head of Department, offering transparency and developmental opportunities, partnering with the training team to ensure crew members' learning and growth needs are met, engaging in pay negotiations and maintaining pay parity within our teams.

* Department Operations – Lead department meetings, maintain scheduling targets, contribute to process improvements and ensure smooth interdepartmental workflow and consistent communication.

Requirements

* You've worked in scheduling and resourcing in a Production or VFX environment – a big plus if you're experienced with VFX and CG pipelines.
* You're a problem‑solver who's great at allocating people and resources effectively.
* You're a pro at working across departments and have a track record of getting stakeholders on the same page.
* You have experience with HR related tasks and know how to build strong teams with the right skills and the right culture.
* You're comfortable MS Office and/or Google Suite.

Skills & Style

* Effective communicator at all levels, with the ability to build good relationships.
* Strong attention to detail to ensure all documents and reports are maintained at the highest level.
* Super detail‑oriented—especially when it comes to resourcing and reporting.
* Calm under pressure, reliable and always a few steps ahead.
* Highly organised and able to juggle multiple priorities.
* Trustworthy and professional—you get things done with discretion and care.
