Offer description

CareerDC charges a coordination fee for each internship program. The service includes a tailored CV update, interview preparation, access to host company interviews, a work experience placement aligned with your degree, an accredited Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course if required, and support during your internship as needed.

Why choose this internship program?

- Apply your engineering knowledge
Be involved in projects that allow you to connect mechanical engineering theory with real-world applications. Depending on your host company, you could be involved in testing systems, preparing fabrication estimates, or working on integrated asset management solutions.
- Gain exposure to diverse industries
Internships are available across sectors including manufacturing, building development, resource extraction, aviation, and sustainable asset management. You’ll see how mechanical engineering contributes to a wide range of projects.
- Build your professional skills
In addition to technical learning, you’ll develop teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills that are essential for success in professional engineering environments.

Who can apply?

- University students in Australia
If you are currently studying mechanical engineering at an Australian university or college, this program can help you meet your internship requirement while gaining industry-relevant experience.
- Recent graduates and students without a placement requirement
If your course doesn’t require an internship, or you’ve already completed your degree, you can still take part by combining the internship with an accredited WIL program.

Placement opportunities

Every 12-week placement is tailored to your academic background, career goals, preferred location, and availability. Example host companies include:

- A provider of asset management solutions supporting industries with performance optimisation and sustainable practices.
- An established manufacturer specialising in steel wire, fabrication, welding, laser cutting, and bending.
- An engineering company delivering technical assessments such as airflow, climate, safety, and movement studies across aviation, energy, security, and building projects.

Example internship tasks

Your tasks will depend on your host company but may include:

- Assisting with performance evaluations of mechanical systems and creating lifecycle plans.
- Preparing estimates and works orders for fabrication jobs, liaising with subcontractors, and producing SolidWorks drawings.
- Supporting laboratory testing of whitegoods, analysing energy efficiency, and preparing technical reports for clients.
