Gogolanyngor Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC is the Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) representing the Jabirr Jabirr/Ngumbarl people committed to caring for country, strengthening culture, and supporting Traditional Owners to lead land and sea management programs. Our Ranger Program works across the southwestern coastal region of the Dampier Peninsula, delivering important cultural and environmental outcomes guided by Traditional Owners, Elders and community aspirations. We are now seeking a dedicated Ranger Coordinator to support and mentor our ranger team on Jabirr Jabirr/Ngumbarl Country.
RANGER COORDINATOR (Jabirr Jabirr/Ngumbarl member identified position)
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and community-minded Ranger Coordinator to lead and support our ranger team in delivering high-quality land and sea management outcomes. This role is central to strengthening cultural knowledge, supporting ranger development, and ensuring effective delivery of on-country work programs. You will work closely with Traditional Owners, Elders, partner organisations, and agencies to plan, implement, and report on ranger activities across cultural heritage, biodiversity, fire management, visitor management, and monitoring programs.
Responsibilities
* Support, mentor, and supervise rangers in daily operations and long-term development.
* Plan and coordinate on-Country including cultural site protection, biodiversity survey, fire management, feral animal and weed control, and coastal/sea management.
* Work respectfully with Traditional Owners and Elders to ensure cultural protocols guide all ranger activities.
* Maintain seasonal work plans, project schedules, budgets, and reporting requirements.
* Organise logistics for field trips including vehicles, equipment, camping gear, and safety planning.
* Ensure safe working practices and lead WHS procedures in remote environments.
* Build positive relationships with community members, partner organizations, schools, researchers, and government agencies.
* Coordinate meetings, workshops, field trip logistics, and travel.
* Maintaining records, registers, and office systems.
Selection Criteria
* Experience leading teams in land or sea management, conservation, or related fields.
* Strong communication, leadership and mentoring skills.
* Ability to work respectfully with Traditional Owners, Elders, and community groups.
* Practical skills in fieldwork, remote area operations, or environmental management.
* Good organisational and problem-solving skills, especially in remote settings.
* Current driver's licence (manual preferable) and ability to travel for fieldwork.
* Commitment to cultural safety and working within Indigenous governance structures.
* Experience working with Aboriginal ranger groups or Indigenous Land/Sea management organisations.
* Must have on-Country knowledge and supervisory experience.
* Knowledge of local languages, and cultural protocols.
* Experience with compliance reporting, project management.
* Must hold and valid Driver's licence.
* GPS, drones, and digital monitoring tools.
Qualifications
* Applicants must hold a current qualification in Conservation and Land Management (Cert IV) or equivalent experience.
This is a Full-Time position based in Broome until 30 June 2027. Competitive remuneration is provided commensurate with experience.
