About The Role – (Workshop Focus)
The role is responsible for leading and coaching fabricators on the workshop floor to ensure work is completed safely, to specification, and to the required quality and timeframes. This involves maintaining a strong on‑floor presence and working directly with the team to support day‑to‑day fabrication activities.
Key Responsibilities Include
Providing hands‑on coaching to fabricators during daily work, including fabrication methods, welding quality, fit‑up, and correct use of tools and equipment.Checking work in progress against drawings, job specs, and quality requirements, and addressing issues early to prevent rework.Coaching safe work practices and ensuring all tasks are carried out in line with safety procedures and site requirements.Supporting apprentices and less experienced fabricators through clear instruction, demonstrations, and ongoing guidance.Setting clear expectations around workmanship, productivity, housekeeping, and job ownership, and holding fabricators accountable for their output.Working with the team to solve fabrication issues, improve workflow, and identify more efficient ways of completing jobs.Recognising good work on the floor and addressing performance or behaviour issues promptly and professionally.
Through consistent floor‑level leadership and coaching, the role ensures the workshop operates safely, efficiently, and delivers high‑quality fabrication outcomes

Strong trade credibility, someone who demonstrates solid fabrication knowledge and experience, earning respect on the workshop floor and leading by example.Hands‑on leadership style – someone who is comfortable being present in the workshop, engaging directly with fabricators, and supporting work as it happens.Clear and practical communication someone with the ability to give clear instructions, explain drawings and standards, and provide direct, constructive feedback without over‑complicating things.Coaching and mentoring mindset – someone who is patient and willing to teach, guide, and develop others—particularly apprentices and less experienced fabricators.High standards and attention to detail – someone who is consistently focused on quality, accuracy, weld standards, and compliance with specifications.Safety‑focused attitude – someone who actively promotes safe work practices, challenges unsafe behaviour, and reinforces safety expectations on the floor.Accountability and consistency – someone who sets clear expectations and follows through, holding people accountable for workmanship, productivity, and behaviour.Problem‑solving ability someone who is calm and practical when issues arise, able to work with the team to resolve challenges as they arise Commitment to continuous improvement – someone who encourages better ways of working, supports skill development, and looks for opportunities to improve workshop efficiency and outcomes.
