Job Description
The Senior Policy Analyst / Advisor – Government Relations will develop policy positions in areas including the tertiary education legislative framework, international education and student visa policy, conduct research and analysis in support of evidence-based advocacy, and represent Navitas at key sector and political forums.
Reporting to the Head of Strategic Engagement and Government Relations (HSEGR), some of the key responsibilities include:
1. Analyse government policy to determine impacts on the Company's operations and objectives.
2. Assist with the development of the Company’s government relations strategy.
3. Develop advocacy plans for specific government relations campaigns.
4. Build and manage relationships of trust with Ministers, Ministerial staff, Opposition frontbenchers, Members of Parliament and Senators, public officials, peak bodies, third-party advocates, and other policy influencers, in conjunction with the HSEGR.
5. Prepare submissions for government policy reviews, proposed legislation, and other government consultative processes, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to source content and make recommendations on Navitas’ positions on key policy debates.
6. Work with stakeholders across the organization to advance proposals to attract government support for key initiatives and policy measures.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
* A degree with substantial relevant experience, or extensive experience and policy expertise in tertiary education or other complex regulatory environments.
* A sound understanding and knowledge of policy, operations, and emerging trends in the tertiary education sector in Australia.
* Experience producing high-quality briefings, policy positions, strategic insights, research, and other written material.
* Demonstrated experience in supporting and advising senior leaders.
* Ability to develop strong, supportive cross-organizational relationships and partnerships.
* Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to incorporate data analysis into recommendations and decisions on complex issues.
* High-level interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
* Sound commercial acumen, with creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
* Capacity to work with small teams to develop strategic goals for policy reform.
