Private Emergency Health Australia (PEHA) is seeking an experienced and driven Practice Manager to take on a foundation leadership role at the Canberra Emergency Care Centre (CECC), Australia's first standalone private emergency department.

The CECC is backed by PEHA, Australia's largest provider of private emergency care, and this is a rare opportunity to be part of establishing a new emergency service from the ground up while being supported by an experienced national operator.

About the role

As Practice Manager, you will play a key role in building and leading the Canberra Emergency Care Centre. Working closely with the CECC Site Director, you will be responsible for establishing operational systems, leading teams, and ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality emergency care.

The role has direct responsibility for the administrative team and works in partnership with the Site Director to manage the emergency department nursing workforce. You will oversee rostering, budgets, financial performance, governance, and continuous improvement as the service grows.

You will also be part of PEHA's national network of Emergency Department Practice Managers, with access to established systems, corporate support, and peer expertise across operations, finance, workforce, IT, and clinical governance.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead administrative operations for a new emergency service

• Recruit, onboard, and manage the administrative team and coordinate rostering

• Jointly manage the emergency department nursing workforce with the Site Director

• Coordinate doctor rostering in collaboration with the Site Director and PEHA workforce teams

• Oversee financial operations, including billing, budgets, reporting, and cost control

• Ensure compliance with PEHA policies, accreditation, and governance requirements

• Manage incidents, patient complaints, and quality improvement activities

• Drive operational excellence, staff engagement, and service improvement initiatives

About you

You are an experienced healthcare Practice Manager or senior operations leader who enjoys building services and shaping strong operational foundations. You are comfortable leading teams, managing complexity, and balancing operational, financial, and quality priorities.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience in healthcare practice management or senior operations roles

• Strong people leadership and workforce management capability

• Proven ability to manage budgets, rosters, and operational performance

• Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills

• Resilience and adaptability in complex, high-pressure environments

Experience in emergency departments or 24/7 healthcare settings will be highly regarded.

Why join PEHA

• Play a foundation role in building a new emergency service from the ground up.

• Be supported by a national network of experienced Practice Managers and corporate teams.

• Make a meaningful impact on patient care, staff experience, and service delivery.
