Position Overview
Are you a highly skilled welder with leadership potential?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Leading Hand (Welding & Fabrication) to take a hands‑on role in supervising and mentoring our welding teams on diverse marine and defence projects for our PERTH TEAM. Your key responsibilities will include ensuring exceptional quality of work, enforcing stringent safety protocols and actively contributing to the successful delivery of projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical welding skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with both the team and management.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and oversee daily tasks for the trade team, ensuring productivity and quality
* Prepare and maintain digital timesheets, assist with daily pre‑starts and contribute to toolbox meetings
* Ensure materials, consumables, tools are organised and available for scheduled work
* Monitor and maintain traceability of materials and consumables for all tasks
* Support basic cost control and resource planning, including workforce allocation
* Report safety, hazard and quality issues through company systems
* Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance efficiency
* Escalate performance or behavioural concerns promptly to the Project Coordinator
* Assist with scheduling and planning activities under guidance from the Project Coordinator and Project Manager
Skills and Experience
* Strong background in welding and fabrication, with practical experience across multiple processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.)
* Ability to interpret drawings and job specifications
* Knowledge and experience in preparing JHEAs (Job Hazard and Environmental Analysis) and SWMS (Safe Work Method Statements)
* Experience with ITPs (Inspection Test Plans) is desirable
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Competent in Microsoft Office and digital reporting tools is desirable
* Organised, proactive, and capable of leading by example
* Understanding of basic scheduling and resource planning principles
Qualifications
* Trade Certificate in Fabrication Engineering, Welding or Boiler making (Certificate III or equivalent)
* Ability to obtain or hold a valid National Police Clearance
