The Opportunity
MidCoast Council is seeking a full-time Executive Manager – Water and Systems, based in Taree, New South Wales.
Reporting to the Director Infrastructure & Engineering Services, this high-impact leadership role oversees around 150 staff across planning, operations, treatment, and capital delivery functions. You’ll play a key role in delivering the Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy, progressing critical infrastructure projects such as Peg Leg Dam, and driving regulatory compliance and service excellence across five drinking water schemes and 14 sewer systems.
Your leadership will help us meet the challenges of population growth, drought, and ageing infrastructure while fostering innovation, community trust, and environmental resilience.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Strategic and operational leadership of Council’s water and wastewater services
* Oversight of capital works, renewals, upgrades, and best-practice utility operations
* Delivery of the Water & Sewer Capital and Operating Programs
* Driving water quality compliance, asset lifecycle planning, and digital transformation
* Representing Council in regulatory, funding, and policy forums
* Building and mentoring multidisciplinary teams across four departments
* Contributing to whole-of-Council strategy as a member of MANEX and Executive Leadership
What you'll bring
You’re an accomplished leader in water utilities or local government, with technical expertise and a strong understanding of the NSW regulatory environment. With a record of strategic infrastructure delivery and a collaborative leadership style, you’re ready to guide a high-performing team through complex operational challenges.
What You’ll Need
* Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Civil or Water Engineering (essential)
* Significant senior leadership experience in water utilities or infrastructure delivery
* In-depth knowledge of water/sewer planning, treatment, asset management and compliance
* Strong financial, program management and risk governance capabilities
* Exceptional interpersonal, stakeholder engagement and team leadership skills
* Eligibility for CPEng or Engineers Australia membership (highly regarded)

Benefits
The successful candidate will be rewarded with an attractive base salary $167,000 - $200,600 plus super and other amazing benefits.
