About The Role
As part of the Tony White Group, Illawarra Toyota is looking to engage a highly motivated and organised Workshop Controller who brings with them strong leadership and team building abilities, to lead our busy workshop. This is a great opportunity for an experienced workshop leader — or a skilled technician looking to take the next step in their career. This role does include Saturday work for a half day every second weekend.
Responsibilities
* Oversee and manage daily workshop flow, available hours, and job completion timelines
* Liaise regularly with Service Advisors to monitor workload capacity and service commitments
* Maximise workshop efficiency and customer bookings by ensuring optimal scheduling
* Diagnose and clarify repair issues based on customer-reported symptoms and targeted questioning
* Lead, coach, and support workshop staff to build skills and drive performance
* Plan technician availability, including leave, training, recruitment, and peak demand coverage
* Ensure compliance with manufacturer warranty procedures and documentation
* Promote and enforce WH&S standards to maintain a safe, productive work environment
* Monitor quality of workmanship, ensuring all vehicles are completed to a high standard and road tested where required
* Identify and escalate unresolved repair, parts, or equipment issues to the Service Manager
* Complete all required training and ensure technician participation in ongoing development.
Skills & Experience
* Qualified Technician or Workshop Controller, preferably with prior experience in a busy service environment
* Strong diagnostic and mechanical knowledge and understanding of workshop processes
* A positive, proactive attitude with the ability to work independently and lead by example
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Open manual driver's licence (essential)
