The Company
This Australian-owned agribusiness has quietly grown from a regional farming operation into a vertically integrated fresh-produce supplier servicing major retailers and food manufacturers in Queensland. With expansive farming operations, high-throughput packing facilities and a growing logistics network, they operate at the intersection of food, innovation and sustainability.
Still anchored by its founding family yet now backed by significant institutional investors, the business has almost tripled in size over the past decade and is on track to reach nine-figure revenues in the near term. The business is also exploring innovative ways to create value from different agricultural areas, with early-stage work already underway.
This is a role that goes far beyond the average financial accountant, offering the chance to explore broader pathways across the business including early exposure to budgeting, forecasting, commercial analysis and even supporting M&A activity as the organisation continues to grow.
You will be well supported by an experienced finance leadership team with deep agriculture and corporate finance backgrounds, who are genuinely committed to handing over responsibility.
The Role
This is a rare opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to step into a role that goes far beyond processing. Sitting within a small, high-performing finance team, you will own core financial accounting tasks while gaining genuine exposure to management accounting, costing and project work that most assistants only see much later in their careers.
* Preparing month end journals and balance sheet reconciliations
* Assisting with profit and loss reviews, variance analysis and commentary for management
* Supporting year end processes, audit queries and evolving investor reporting requirements
* Maintaining the fixed asset register and assisting with CapEx tracking across farming, packing and innovative projects
* Working closely with AP and AR to ensure accurate coding, accruals and cut off
* Partnering with operational teams across farms, packing sheds and logistics to investigate anomalies and "make the numbers make sense"
As you grow, you will have the opportunity to:
* Contribute to budgets and rolling forecasts
* Support activity-based costing for crops, packing lines and value-add products
* Assist with financial modelling and performance tracking for the new facility and future sites
* Help streamline reporting using NetSuite and associated planning tools
About You
* You are an early-career accounting professional who wants more than just ticking boxes and sending spreadsheets into a void.
* You enjoy getting out from behind the desk, talking to operations and understanding how the numbers connect to real-world activity.
* You thrive in environments that are fast-moving, slightly unstructured and very practical.
* The idea of combining agriculture, manufacturing-style operations and innovative projects excites you, and you are eager to build a career that blends solid technical foundations with commercial exposure.
Skills & Experience
* Around 2 years experience in an Assistant Accountant, junior Financial Accountant or similar role
* Strong grounding in month end processes including journals, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
* Exposure to year end processes and working with external auditors
* Good working knowledge of accounting systems, ideally including mid-tier ERPs such as NetSuite
* Confident communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders across operations, logistics and management
* A proactive, problem-solving mindset and a willingness to go and find answers
What's on Offer
* A genuinely varied Assistant Accountant role with real input into management accounting and commercial decision making
* Exposure to a unique combination of agriculture, food production and innovation.
* Access paid study leave and financial support for CA or CPA, including reimbursement upon completion to help fast track your professional growth
* A growing, PE backed business where finance is evolving and there is room to shape processes and reporting
* Direct mentoring from experienced finance leaders who have grown businesses through significant organic growth and acquisitions
* A close knit, supportive team culture in a business that still thinks like a family operation but performs like a sophisticated corporate
* Clear pathways to progress into Financial Accountant or Management Accountant positions as the group continues to grow.
