Overview
The City of Canterbury Bankstown (CBCity) is one of the largest Councils in NSW, serving more than 380,000 residents with 28 key services including childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres.
The Role
We are offering a two-year fixed-term Trainee Town Planner program designed to start a career in statutory planning, development assessment, and customer service. You will receive on-the-job mentoring and training while contributing to real-world development projects that shape our city.
Duties
* Provide planning and development advice through Council's Duty Planner and pre-lodgement services
* Assist with assessing development proposals and related applications
* Support customers via counter, phone, and email
* Ensure applications meet legislative requirements
* Prepare reports, memorandums, and correspondence on development matters
* Undertake site inspections and coordinate feedback from internal and external stakeholders
* Meet Council deadlines and statutory timeframes
* Carry out other tasks as directed by the Team Leader or Manager

You Will Have
* Enrolment in a tertiary course leading to a qualification in town planning or a related discipline
* Strong interest in development assessment and statutory planning
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Basic understanding of relevant planning legislation and regulations
* Commitment to continuous learning and a proactive work ethic
* Class C Driver's Licence
The salary for this opportunity begins at $43,024 (T04 Grade) plus 12% super.
