Overview of the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Cloud Security & Automation Engineer to lead a critical, specific mission: the end-to-end automation of our Akamai ecosystem. Deep, expert-level knowledge of Akamai is vital for this role. We are not just maintaining existing configs; we are re-architecting how we interact with the edge. The core purpose of this project is to build a sophisticated automation framework that unlocks the full potential of Akamai's capabilities—maximizing performance, security, and agility. You will be the technical authority responsible for translating manual processes into code, ensuring we are squeezing every ounce of value and capability out of the Akamai platform through intelligent automation.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead the Akamai Automation Strategy: Design and implement the technical strategy to fully automate Akamai configurations, ensuring we maximize the platform's capabilities through code.
* Akamai Solution Design: Architect complex edge solutions that leverage the full suite of Akamai products, translating them into declarative, reproducible infrastructure-as-code.
* Build Robust Pipelines: Develop and maintain automation pipelines using Python, Terraform, and GitHub Actions to manage Akamai Property Manager and security configurations.
* Maximize Edge Capability: Proactively identify opportunities to utilise advanced Akamai features that can be unlocked through automation to improve security and performance.
* Observability & Visibility: Build and enhance our observability stack (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Chronosphere, Observe) to ensure high visibility into Akamai traffic and performance.
* Technical Mentorship: Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for Akamai within the team, training other engineers on best practices for edge security and CDN automation.
Skills and Experience
Required:
* VITAL: Expert-Level Akamai Experience: You must possess deep, hands-on expertise with Akamai, including its API (PAPI/OPEN API), Property Manager, Akamai CLI, and Security products (Kona/App & API Protector). This is a mandatory requirement.
* Automation & IaC Expertise: Proven experience using Terraform and Python to automate CDN and WAF configurations (Akamai provider experience preferred).
* Systems Architecture: Strong background in solution design, specifically for edge networking, caching strategies, and traffic management.
* DevSecOps Fluency: Hands-on expertise with GitHub Actions and CI/CD principles, embedding security into the delivery lifecycle.
* Cloud Infrastructure: Deep understanding of Proxies, WAFs, Firewalls, Load Balancers, and how they integrate with edge security.
* Observability: Practical experience with modern tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Chronosphere, or Observe.
* BSc in Computer Science or a related degree.
Bonus Points For:
* Experience migrating configurations from other CDNs (e.g., Cloudflare) to Akamai.
* Experience with AWS CDK (Cloud Development Kit).
* Prior experience working in environments compliant with PCI-DSS or ISO 27001.
* A background in supporting highly scalable SaaS platforms within Financial Services or High-Frequency Trading.
