Key Responsibilities
Core Duties & Expectations for a Second Year Apprentice
Domestic Install & Maintenance
- Assist with new residential wiring, switchboard upgrades, fault finding, and routine maintenance covering power, lighting, and data. Expected to work safely and autonomously on basic tasks under supervision.
Industrial Maintenance
- Assist in diagnosing faults and repairing plant and machinery. Gain exposure to three-phase systems, motor control, and PLC wiring, ideal for those seeking technical experience.
Commercial Insurance Repair
- Support reactive repairs for commercial clients after fire, flood, or storm damage. Assist with stripping out damaged circuits, testing, and installing new circuits.
Medical & Specialist Fit-outs
- Work on new and refurbished medical facilities, such as dentists and general practices. Learn about specific medical standards, including body-protected and cardiac-protected areas, and essential services wiring.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, correctly use and care for PPE, and actively follow all WHS procedures and instructions from the supervising Tradesman.
Essential Requirements

Apprenticeship Status
- Successful completion of first year TAFE block).
Technical Experience
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of electrical theory, circuit wiring, and safe working practices.
Licence
- Current, unrestricted Manual Driver's Licence (necessary for accessing Northside job sites and company vehicles).
General
- Blue/White Card (Construction Induction) and current CPR/LVR qualification.
Commitment
- Reliability, excellent time management, and a strong commitment to completing Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician).

Wages & Advantages
Wages
- Remuneration is provided under the Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award 2020 (MA at the applicable second year rate, plus superannuation. Rates are negotiable depending on age and experience, with adult apprentice rates significantly higher.
Allowances
- Tool allowance, travel/fares allowance, and other Award entitlements are provided as per the Modern Award.
