Job Description
Duties
To work closely with Pacific Life Re's Protection line of business on legal aspects of the protection business, focusing on the Australia market, including (60%):
1. Drafting, negotiating and amending life reinsurance treaties with clients
2. Providing legal support and advice on high value or disputed life insurance claims
3. Advising on life insurance policy reviews and underwriting and claims processes
4. Documenting retrocession arrangements
This may also involve liaising with external counsel.
Identifying and taking ownership of legal andpliance issues for Pacific Life Re (Australia) Pty Limited ( PLRA ) as a legal entity (15%):
5. Advising the business on the applicable regulatory context for business operations, particularly APRA regulations, data protection and financial services law
6. Maintaining currency in changes to the legal and regulatory context of the business' operations,municating changes internally and assisting the business to identify and implement consequential operational changes
7. Monitoring and reporting on execution ofpliance related activities
8. Drafting and updating internalpliance policies and regulatorypliance plans
9. Undertakingpliance testing and executing actions arising
10. Providing induction and ad hocpliance training to staff
Serving aspany secretary for PLRA, including coordinating preparation of board packs and drafting of minutes of board meetings. (15%)
Drafting, reviewing and advising on back officemercial agreements, including supplier agreements, intragroup finance agreements and property leases. (10%)
Dealing with ad hoc legal andpliance queries from the business (, contract interpretation, regulatory interpretation, data protection, HR).
Other duties as required of the Legal team from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
11. Qualified solicitor (Australia or England and Wales), with at least 5 years' PQE
12. At least 3 years' experience in a top tier law firm
13. General contract andmercial law experience
14. Good experience drafting and negotiating high-value contracts
15. Demonstrated experience withpeting demands and tight deadlines
16. Demonstrated experiencemunicating directly with business/clients
Desirable
17. Legal experience relating to the financial services sector, and the insurance/reinsurance sectors in particular
Key skills
18. Good legal drafting skills
19. Strong attention to detail, organised, conscientious
20. A self-starter who enjoys variety and dealing with non-standard and unstructured requests, sometimes at short notice
21. Ability and desire tomunicate with business customers at all levels across the business
22. Works well within a team environment
23. Motivated to take ownership of work and to seek further responsibility
