About the position
As a Visitor Development Assistant at the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA), you will support the Gallery's learning and education programs. This role focuses on administrative support, booking coordination, and assisting with the delivery of school workshops and tours. You'll be the friendly point of contact for school and community groups, helping ensure every visit is smooth, informative, and enriching.
Working within the Learning Team, responsibilities include handling bookings and enquiries, assisting with guided tours and school workshops, maintaining accurate audience data, and collaborating with staff to grow and diversify AGWA's audiences. This is a customer‑focused role with a strong community engagement component, ideal for someone who values education and the arts.
About the person
We're looking for someone who is professional, organised and passionate about working with people. You will provide excellent service to visitors and communicate clearly with a wide range of audiences, including school groups, community organisations, and colleagues. You enjoy working in a team but are also confident taking initiative when working independently.
Ideally you'll have experience managing bookings and supporting educational or community‑focused events, along with strong administrative and IT skills. An interest in visual arts and prior experience in an educational or cultural setting are highly desirable. This role suits someone who is organised, approachable and enthusiastic about helping others connect with the arts.
About the Art Gallery
The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is the State's premier Art Museum. Located in Perth's Cultural Centre, the Main and Centenary Galleries house the State Art Collection of over 18,700 works by local and international artists from the 1800s to today, including approximately 3,000 Aboriginal works. In 2020, the Gallery celebrated 125 years of operation.

Location and conditions
This position is located in central Perth within the Cultural Centre hub, close to cafés, tourist and shopping districts.
Conditions: This is a part‑time, fixed‑term vacancy for 12 months, with a possibility of extension and/or permanency. There will also be a pool for a period of 12 months from the initial appointment. Applicants deemed suitable may be placed into a pool and considered for similar vacancies in the Culture and Arts Portfolio and/or the wider public sector.
Pre‑employment conditions
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, have permanent resident status in Australia, or hold a visa that allows living and work for the period of the employment contract.
Successful applicants will be required to complete the following prior to commencement:
* A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate is required prior to employment and Working with Children Clearance
* Pre‑employment Conflict of Interest form (see attached Conflict of Interest guide for information)
Note: The selection process may be used to fill similar vacancies within the Culture and Arts Portfolio and/or the wider public sector. If the successful applicant declines or vacates, the next most suitable applicant may be selected from this process. Future vacancies may be permanent, fixed term, part time, or full time.
