At Xero, a Principal Engineer plays a crucial role in shaping and steering the architecture and engineering direction, fostering community, and developing engineering capabilities:Influencing the technical strategy of a group, often partnering with senior engineering and product leadership to ensure healthy product development and guide overall product direction.Collaborating with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business needs. Building cross-functional relationships, facilitating conversations, and managing differing viewpoints to reach the best outcomes.Enhancing team performance through goal setting, feedback, barrier removal, coaching, and fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture. Modeling standards of excellence, promoting best practices, and sharing knowledge via talks, blogs, or documentation.Proven experience in software engineering with a focus on system architecture and design.Championing a culture of experimentation, encouraging testing of new ideas and technologies through prototypes and proof-of-concept projects.What you’ll do:Support, develop, and deliver reliable applications by actively monitoring and improving performance.Plan, execute, and monitor projects using Agile or other methodologies to ensure timely delivery.Explore new technologies and methodologies to enhance processes and products. Collaborate and coach your team to adhere to Xero Engineering Standards, including compliance, security, and front-end development requirements.Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders and advocate for the engineering team.
