Oceans have been exclusively retained to source the General Manager – Sales and Operations for Heinemann Oceania.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Manager – Sales and Operations to join the executive leadership team. This is a pivotal senior role for a retail leader who thrives on driving growth, operational excellence, and outstanding customer experiences across a complex retail environment.

Working in close partnership with the Managing Director and fellow General Managers, you will play a critical role in delivering enterprise-wide strategic objectives, shaping the future of our retail business, and ensuring sales, marketing, visual merchandising, and operational execution are seamlessly aligned.

About the Role
As General Manager – Sales and Operations, you will provide strategic oversight and hands-on leadership across all retail environments. You will be accountable for achieving sales and revenue targets, maximising profitability, optimising workforce productivity, and continuously elevating the customer experience.

Key Responsibilities
Retail Business Leadership

* Own the end-to-end performance of the retail business, ensuring revenue, cost, and service targets are consistently achieved.
* Develop and execute strategies that drive sales growth, improve margins, and enhance operational efficiency.
* Identify risks and opportunities across the retail portfolio and lead action plans to deliver net profit outcomes.

Sales Strategy and Performance

* Set, monitor, and deliver sales targets across all retail channels.
* Analyse sales performance to uncover trends and opportunities, implementing initiatives to achieve KPIs.
* Drive improvements in contribution per square metre through effective space utilisation and product placement.

Visual Merchandising and Store Planning

* Lead the development of visual merchandising strategies that strengthen brand presence and customer engagement.
* Partner with Architecture and Design and Marketing to ensure store layouts and fit-outs support commercial outcomes.
* Champion store improvement initiatives and new concepts that enhance efficiency and profitability.

Marketing and Digital Integration

* Collaborate closely with Marketing to ensure campaigns and promotions align with sales objectives and operational capacity.
* Drive digital marketing initiatives to grow online engagement and sales.
* Ensure a consistent and compelling brand presence across all channels, including social media and e-commerce.

Workforce Planning and Leadership

* Oversee workforce planning to ensure optimal staffing and productivity across all locations.
* Lead, coach, and develop Store Managers and retail teams to deliver exceptional service and strong financial results.
* Build high-performing teams through effective performance management, training, and career development pathways.

Operational Excellence

* Work with Finance, Commercial, and People and Culture teams to integrate planning, forecasting, and replenishment systems.
* Champion continuous improvement initiatives that reduce costs and improve customer experience.
* Ensure compliance with WHS requirements and company policies across the retail network.

What You'll Bring

* 10+ years' experience in senior retail leadership roles, with strong exposure to strategic planning, forecasting, and financial analysis.
* Proven experience in roles such as Head of Retail, Head of Sales, or Senior Operations Manager within a complex retail environment.
* Deep understanding of retail operations, P&L management, and commercial drivers of performance.
* Strong capability across digital marketing, promotional campaigns, visual merchandising, and cost management.
* Confident people leader with the ability to inspire, develop, and manage diverse teams.
* Highly organised, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities in an international retail business.
* Proficiency in MS Office and retail planning systems.
* Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

* Retail Management qualifications (essential).
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
