As a Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you will play a critical role in driving engineering best practice and improving asset reliability across Visy's busy Smithfield paper mills. Reporting to the Reliability Manager, you'll lead proactive reliability, lubrication, and condition monitoring initiatives to improve plant efficiency, minimise downtime, and support safe, sustainable operations.
This is a hands‐on role suited to an engineer who enjoys being visible on the plant floor, solving problems, supporting trades, and influencing continuous improvement in a fast‐paced manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do
* Lead and drive mechanical reliability and lubrication initiatives across the mill
* Monitor plant performance and proactively address reliability losses
* Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
* Investigate equipment failures using Root Cause Analysis and implement corrective actions
* Coordinate and execute small to medium capital projects and engineering improvements
* Support shutdown planning through scope development, parts procurement, and execution support
* Supervise and assist trades during maintenance activities and equipment rebuilds
* Maintain engineering standards, documentation, and quality systems
* Contribute to spares management, identifying critical and redundant parts
* Ensure all activities comply with Visy safety, environmental, and quality requirements
* Actively contribute to a strong safety culture through risk assessments, permits, and safety conversations
What You'll Bring To The Team
* Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
* Minimum 3 years' post‐graduate experience in a manufacturing environment
* Experience in Pulp & Paper or heavy industrial / large rotating equipment processing environments
* Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and plant reliability knowledge
* CMMS experience and confidence working with maintenance systems and data
* Proven ability to analyse failures and implement practical, fit‐for‐purpose solutions
* Hands‐on mindset with the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
* Strong understanding of HSE requirements and safe systems of work
* Ability to participate in an on‐call engineering roster (current driver's licence required)
* Continuous improvement mindset with excellent stakeholder engagement skills
