Join to apply for the Members of the Repatriation Medical Authority role at the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs.
The Repatriation Medical Authority (RMA) determines Statements of Principles (SOPs) for diseases, injuries or deaths related to military service based on sound medical-scientific evidence. The Authority does not determine or consider individual claims. The RMA comprises a Chairperson and four other members who are eminent medical or scientific experts. Members work on a part-time basis and are appointed by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs for terms up to five years. The RMA is supported by a Brisbane-based Secretariat of legal, administrative and research staff.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the RMA, contributing medical-scientific expertise to SOP development.
- Collaborate with the Chairperson and other members to review and determine Statements of Principles based on current evidence.
- Represent the RMA in discussions with stakeholders and executive government as required.
- Uphold high ethical standards and demonstrate intellectual rigour in governance and decision-making.
- Utilise understanding of the Australian Repatriation system to inform recommendations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered medical practitioner or medical scientist with an outstanding academic record and extensive clinical or public health experience.
- Expertise in psychiatry or musculoskeletal medicine and/or epidemiology is particularly sought.
- Robust representational, stakeholder management capabilities and a proven track record of leadership in medical-scientific fields.
- Understanding of executive government processes and experience interacting with government institutions is well regarded.
Terms and Additional Information
- The RMA is a Brisbane-based Secretariat-supported, part-time appointment.
- Appointments are for up to five years and may be used to fill future RMA appointments.
