We are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for permanent and fixed term, full‐time and part‐time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN:BE) provides educational support and services with schools, for students with extreme, complex, and challenging behaviours across a Kindergarten to Year 12 (K-12) context. SSEN:BE is part of the network of specialist schools that operates under Statewide Services (SWS).
SSEN:BE staff provide individualised support for schools and young people that can take the form of consultative, direct, indirect and/or professional learning support as befits the needs of the school or student referred to our service.
Responsibilities
The SSEN:BE Deputy Principal role requires leadership that is responsive, consultative, and outcomes driven for the benefit of students and schools. You should be committed to expanding your own Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge and able to lead staff to build their individual capability in delivering culturally responsive practices. Your decision‐making should always be centred on meeting the needs of K‐12 schools and students, with an ability to clearly articulate support strategies that lead to expected, positive and measurable outcomes.
As Deputy Principal you may be required to lead diverse teams of SSENBE staff across the State, work closely with K‐12 school staff and problem solve highly complex scenarios involving multiple stakeholders. You will play a key role in providing educational leadership and shaping a positive school culture by collaborating with the administrative team, promoting the school's ethos of "With Schools For Students", utilising effective change‐management strategies for continuous improvement, and assisting in workforce effectiveness, leading and motivating staff to enhance student outcomes.
You will contribute to the school plan through participative decision‐making, policy development, and system establishment, and will also manage administrative and operational systems to ensure effective school operations, including compliance with regulations, providing staff feedback, implementing information systems, and overseeing staff leave entitlements.
Professional Benefits
Working for the Department of Education you will enjoy competitive salaries, flexible working arrangements, training and career development opportunities and attractive leave provisions.
