We are seeking to establish a pool of English Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Note: This position is being advertised as part of a recruitment pilot designed to simplify the application process for teachers. A mandatory CV template is provided for use. Application requirements include character limited responses to address only 2 Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) domains at application stage. The remaining AITSL domain will be assessed as part of the further assessment stage, for shortlisted applicants only.

The Role

At Karratha SHS, English teachers are expected to build positive relationships with students and work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance academic achievement.

Suitable applicants should demonstrate strong professional knowledge, effective teaching practices, and relevant experience to deliver an engaging and meaningful secondary school English curriculum.

Teaching practices must align with the Whole School Instructional Model, ensuring consistency and effectiveness across all learning areas.

The ability to analyse and apply data, such as National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) to inform planning, instruction, and assessment is highly desirable. Experience teaching Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) English is also considered an advantage.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.

* consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
