Your Role

* Plan, prepare and deliver quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with evidence-based pedagogy used with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students, Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, Australian Curriculum and departmental policy.
* Develop, deliver in Auslan (where appropriate), report against and evaluate DHH specific programs to individuals, small groups or classes including DHH students.
* Ensure access for DHH students to learning environments that provide for their psycho-social needs. This may include planning for inclusion of Deaf culture in programs, provision of wellbeing programs that are DHH specific, working alongside DHH role models and members of the Deaf community.
* Plan accessible and appropriate assessment tasks that allow DHH students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
* Use appropriate assessment methods to gather relevant data to inform tailored and personalised adjustments including the use of sign language assessment, functional listening assessments, the DHH Assessment Protocol and the Pedagogical Profiling process.
* Advocate for and provide information and advice around communication philosophies / approaches and best practice for DHH students to support effective decision making around accessible environments, resources, access to and use of specialised equipment, assistive listening technologies, and DHH specific pedagogies to maximise learning for DHH in all settings across the school.
* Collaborate with other specialist support staff as appropriate.
* Develop transition plans for DHH students and children at all stages of learning.
* Contribute to the maintenance of student records, the collection of samples of work, and reporting on the referral and coordinated delivery of services for students and children who are DHH.
* Establish and maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships.

Qualifications

* A relevant teaching qualification. for further information on teaching qualifications.
* Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. Pre‑service / graduate teachers must have been granted provisional registration prior to commencing employment as a teacher. For more information regarding registration requirements, please .
* Employment for pre‑service / graduate teachers will be subject to the successful completion of a relevant teaching qualification and meeting the minimum requirements as a teacher with the department.
* Working rights in Australia, which means you have, or you are eligible to obtain a valid Australian Visa with work rights (if you're not already an Australian Citizen or resident).
