Full Time Fixed Term (until June 2027), 9‐day fortnight (36 hours per fortnight). Salary: From $101,616 p/a plus superannuation. Position Brief – Natural Hazard Planner.
About the Team
The Natural Hazards Planning team works closely with the Natural Hazards Engineering team and other internal technical and planning teams to develop fit‐for‐purpose natural hazard policy and support its integration into the planning scheme.
About Your New Role
This role is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of natural hazard policy and mapping updates to the Planning Scheme, including landslide, bushfire, coastal, and flood hazards, as well as other emerging policy work that contributes to the city's resilience.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the development of natural hazard policy and its integration and implementation into the Planning Scheme to enhance the resilience of the Gold Coast.
* Review and prepare updated natural hazards policy in the planning scheme to ensure it meets State Planning Policy, including hazard identification, risk assessment and analysis, and plan‐drafting, particularly for hazard overlay maps and codes.
* Project manage and support delivery of key natural hazard components for input to the planning scheme and amendment packages within required internal and statutory timeframes.
* Develop a technically proficient understanding of natural hazard policy in broader land use planning contexts and QLD planning frameworks.
* Prepare high‐quality reports and briefings on natural hazard policy and land use planning issues.
* Represent the Natural Hazards Team in various forums, working groups, and projects as required.
* Support delivery of a high level of customer service to clients and stakeholders, both internal and external.
* Develop and maintain productive collaborations and relationships with key stakeholders within the Branch, across the Council Departments and with external agencies.
* Engage with and facilitate key stakeholder groups, both internal and external, as supported by organised meetings.
Qualifications & Skills
* A planning qualification is required; experience in strategic planning, development assessment, or natural hazards planning is desirable.
* Ability to support and assist technical experts across a range of professional fields including engineering and land use planning.
* Technical proficiencies that facilitate learning about natural hazards planning and policy development.
* Well‐developed organisational, communication, project management, and time management skills.
* Proven experience working unsupervised as well as part of a team.
* Experience in forming positive working relationships with team members and key internal and external stakeholders.
* A high level of motivation, enthusiasm, initiative and a drive to deliver good outcomes for the city.
