Your next career opportunity

As a Laboratory Technician, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting the day-to-day operations of diverse laboratories within the Mechatronics, Electronics and Digital Cluster. You'll gain hands-on experience maintaining and operating state-of-the-art equipment, assisting academic staff, and ensuring the smooth facilitation of research and teaching activities. This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple fields, including AI, cybersecurity, and robotics, enhancing your technical expertise in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Deliver Technical Services: Provide expert support to teaching and research activities, advising staff and students on equipment use.
* Maintain and Operate Equipment: Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and operational, including scheduled services and safety compliance.
* Manage Laboratory Resources: Facilitate purchases, maintain inventory, and support the procurement of consumables for laboratory activities.
* Ensure Compliance: Complete Quality and OHS requirements, including inspections, risk assessments, and maintaining documentation.

You may be a great fit if:

You hold a relevant qualification or equivalent experience in supporting teaching and research within higher education or industry, particularly in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or Geomatics/Surveying. You have expertise in VR/AR development using Unity or Unreal Engine, motion tracking, geospatial instrumentation, digital sensing and mapping technologies, and UAV-based surveying. You demonstrate strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, while maintaining high standards of technical support, safety, and professional integrity.

You may also:

* Experience with VR/AR and immersive technology development on platforms such as Unity or Unreal Engine

* Experience managing User Experience laboratories, including server administration, sensor stream synchronisation, data security, and database management

* Proficiency in operating motion tracking, geospatial, and UAV-based surveying systems

* Experience configuring and maintaining experimental systems for human behaviour sensing technologies such as eye tracking, EEG, EMG, and EDA

* Strong technical support skills across teaching and research environments in higher education or industry

* Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational abilities in dynamic, multidisciplinary settings

* Commitment to professional integrity, high service standards, and compliance with OHS and laboratory regulations
