About the Role
We are seeking a practical, hands-on Maintenance Officer to support day-to-day maintenance operations across UQ Residences sites at St Lucia. This role is well suited to someone with a trade background, trade assistant experience, or an entry-level maintenance professional looking to develop their skills in a large, well-supported environment.
You will work closely with the Facilities Supervisor and wider maintenance team, carrying out general maintenance, minor repairs, and assisting with installations and refurbishments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance across residential buildings
* Complete minor repair works including doors, locks, door furniture, light fittings, fixtures, and fittings
* Assist with basic carpentry, tiling, grouting, plaster patching, and furniture installation or assembly
* Perform basic plumbing tasks such as clearing drains and repairing leaking taps or toilets
* Assist with installations, refurbishments, and site setup works
* Maintain common areas, plant rooms, and external areas to ensure they are safe, clean, and operational
* Assist with rubbish removal and site cleanliness
* Check, maintain, and safely operate tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies
* Receive deliveries and move materials to the appropriate areas
* Monitor stock levels and report low or depleted supplies to the Facilities Supervisor
* Complete basic administrative tasks including emails, maintenance logs, and updating spreadsheets
Organisational Relationships
This position works across UQ Residences sites at St Lucia and reports directly to the Facilities Supervisor.
Selection Criteria
Essential
* Previous experience in general maintenance, construction, or a trade assistant role
* Minimum 5 years of proven general maintenance experience
* Basic knowledge of carpentry and plumbing tasks
* Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment
* Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
* Good problem-solving skills and a practical approach to tasks
* Strong time management and ability to prioritise work
* Good communication skills and a positive team attitude
* Basic computer skills (email, simple data entry)
* Current driver's licence
* Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
Desirable
* Trade qualification or currently undertaking a trade (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or similar)
* Additional health and safety training or certifications

This is a full-time position, working five days per week on campus at St Lucia.
