Infrastructure Engineer (Project-Focused)
Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support and deliver key technology projects across a complex enterprise environment. This role is heavily project-driven and suited to an engineer who enjoys designing, implementing, and improving infrastructure solutions across on-prem and cloud platforms.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver infrastructure projects across server, compute, virtualisation, and cloud environments
* Design, implement, and optimise VMware platforms and virtual infrastructure
* Manage and support Microsoft technology stack, including Windows Server and core services
* Provide hands-on expertise across server and compute environments (builds, migrations, upgrades)
* Contribute to hybrid cloud initiatives and infrastructure modernisation programs
* Support network transformation activities including SD-WAN deployment and integration
* Collaborate with architecture, security, and application teams to deliver scalable solutions
* Produce technical documentation, implementation plans, and operational handover material
* Ensure solutions align with best practice, performance, and security standards
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as an Infrastructure Engineer within project-based environments
* Strong hands-on experience with VMware (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
* Solid expertise across Microsoft server technologies (Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy)
* Server and compute experience including hardware lifecycle, storage, and performance optimisation
* Experience delivering infrastructure transformation or migration projects
* Strong troubleshooting and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable Experience
* Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS) and hybrid infrastructure design
* SD-WAN implementation or support experience
* Automation and scripting knowledge (PowerShell preferred)
* Experience with backup, DR, and high-availability architectures
* Familiarity with infrastructure as code and modern deployment practices
