Operations Engineer – Mission-Critical IT & Communications

Join a team responsible for supporting a state-wide, mission-critical radio communications network relied on by emergency services, utilities and government agencies. This role offers unique exposure to specialised radio, IT and network technologies that keep essential services running 24/7.
About the Role
As an Operations Engineer, you'll provide IT, network and communications systems support within an ITIL-aligned environment. You'll work across servers, networking, virtualisation, security tools, radio infrastructure and dispatch systems to maintain a high-availability service.
Key Responsibilities
* Support and maintain Windows/Linux servers, VMware ESXi and storage systems
* Manage routing, switching and security technologies (firewalls/antimalware)
* Support radio network applications, infrastructure, consoles and subscriber devices
* Act as an escalation point for NOC and field technicians
* Participate in a 24/7 on‑call roster, including occasional urgent after‑hours work
* Work within change control processes and maintain documentation
* Liaise with third‑party vendors and contribute to KPI/SLA reporting
What You'll Bring
Essential
* 3+ years in system/network engineering or administration
* Experience with servers, routing/switching, and firewalls
* Strong communication, ownership and problem‑solving skills
Desirable
* Experience with P25 or other radio communication systems
* Certifications such as Linux+, Security+, Network+, CCNA, RHCSA, ITILv4
* Experience with VMware, Active Directory, Windows Server, RHEL, Juniper, HPE Aruba
