The opportunity we have available
The Information Management Unit (IMU) is seeking an Assistant Director, that can perform the duties expected of an Executive Level 1 (EL1), including:
* providing, or the ability to effectively grasp and learn, technical and subject matter advise as it relates to information management and BAU functions
* driving a range of strategic deliverables, including but not limited to project and contract management, and policy development
* ability to effectively grasp and understand relevant information management directives, objectives, and Commonwealth legislation
* ability to translate strategic priorities into operational outcomes to provide technical advice, lead a small team, and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
The key duties of the position include:
What will you do?
This role will work closely with another EL1 and the director to deliver information management objectives and enhancements to the department. Key activities as part of the role include, but are not limited to:
* collaborating with other teams to provide advice and support on departmental priorities, including the implementation of a new information management system, ensuring compliance with relevant information management standards, policies, regulations, legislation, records authorities, auditing requirements, and business classification schemes
* understanding and maintaining information management policies, procedures, and related governance material, to be able to provide best practice legislative and administrative guidance
* understanding the department’s information management system, and the process to categorise and life cycle manage information assets to be able to support users and provide SME advice
* uplifting the department’s information management culture through the provision of value-add products, including educational sessions and material
* understanding and completing required Commonwealth objectives, including the department’s response to the National Archives of Australia Check-Up Survey, and the Senate Order of Continuing Effect No. 12 report
* engaging with technical teams to resolve system issues within the IMU remit, including supporting Machinery of Government changes and other departmental movements as they relate to the appropriate export and import of information
* driving strategic deliverables requiring strong project and stakeholder management capabilities, and effective written and verbal communication, such as updating the department’s records authorities as required, drafting policy updates, executive briefings, committee papers, and procurement documentation.
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the EL1 Work level standards. This includes demonstrating a positive attitude, resourcefulness, initiative, collaboration and flexibility to deliver results. Successful candidates will have strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, sound judgement, strong stakeholder engagement skills, strong organisation and project management skills, and the ability to manage complexity and deliver quality outcomes.
Strong experience in leading projects and a demonstrated ability to quickly and effectively grasp a solid understanding of information management BAU activities, policies, standards and legislation is essential to this role. Information management or relevant industry qualifications, experience and knowledge is desirable, but not essential.

Information management or relevant industry qualifications, experience and knowledge is desirable, but not essential.

Eligibility requirements
Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:
* Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
* Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
* Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. * Police check: The successful candidate must satisfactory complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.
* Integrity and Performance check: The successful candidate must satisfy the requirements in an Integrity and Performance check which is completed by your most recent employer.
