15th April, 2026 Help make hospital fun in our medical-free haven for children and their families, the Starlight Express Room! Our mission is to brighten the lives of seriously ill children, young people and their families. Our volunteers are at the heart of our Programs, bringing happiness to sick kids when they need it most. Because happiness matters! Join the Starlight Children’s Foundation internship and you’ll be part of a wonderful, diverse, positive community of like-minded people. Our team members share Starlight’s SHINE value and are committed to our mission. You’ll work closely with our very own superhero, Captain Starlight, giving children and their families a chance to reconnect and take a break from the stress and pain of illness and treatment. What does a typical shift look like? Hospital shifts vary, and you’ll bring your warmth, positivity and energy to each one. You’ll welcome visitors to the room, engage kids in craft, play video games, sing and dance (talent is optional!), play card games… you name it! You’ll also help keep the room clean and organised. Will I be trained? Absolutely! Successful applicants receive complete on-boarding, training and support. We want you to have the best possible experience. Safeguarding Children and Young People Children and young people are at the heart of Starlight’s Mission. Our first and most important responsibility is the safety and well-being of the children and young people we support. At Starlight, we have a commitment to safeguard the children and young people we work with. We have an internal policy that we abide by which underpins our employment and volunteering with Starlight. Anything else I should know? Yes, and it’s important too! We’re committed to providing positive experiences in an environment that’s caring, nurturing and safe. Successful applicants will therefore undertake a Working With Children Check and a National Police Check. Further, as part of our commitment to the safety of our team and community, we work closely with hospitals to ensure we follow their protocols and guidelines. Additional requirements You must be aged 18 or older to apply Successful applicants must comply with our vaccination policy We seek candidates from diverse backgrounds who will bring rich experience and perspective to the team, which we know will enhance our creativity and collective intelligence. We aim for our Starlight team to reflect the broader community, and we encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, members of the LGBTQIA community, people with diverse abilities and those who are mature aged or just starting out in their careers. We are committed to positive experiences in an environment where everyone is included, respected, safe and treated fairly, so you can be your best and true self every day.
