Job Overview
As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide support to individuals with disabilities to live as independently as possible. Your role will involve assisting people to achieve their NDIS goals by developing important daily skills such as housekeeping, personal care, social skills, and budgeting. You will also assist with aspects of personal care where required, support with meal planning, cooking, light cleaning, and facilitate community connection by socialising and going on outings. You will be involved in daily activities such as going for a walk, going to the movies or accompanying someone to an appointment. Furthermore, you will help the individuals you support maintain a connection to their family, friends, and services.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience working in a similar field, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills. A Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) is highly regarded, but not essential. You will also need to be flexible to work various shifts including days, evenings, early mornings, weekends, and sleepovers. The capacity to meet the physical requirements of the role is also essential, as some manual handling tasks may be involved. Commitment to privacy and confidentiality is mandatory. Good computer skills and experience using Word, Excel, and Outlook are also required. You will need to hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check (Blue Card), NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card), First Aid, CPR, National Criminal History Check (Fit2Work), and an open Drivers License with comprehensive insurance on your vehicle.
