About the Role
This position is based at Victoria's newly established Western Plains Correctional Centre, in Lara. Forensicare provides mental health services in prisons across Victoria, aiming to deliver the same standard of care as in area mental health services. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join a multidisciplinary team in providing assessment and intervention to patients housed at the correctional centre.
Responsibilities
* Assess, interpret and intervene to improve occupational performance by identifying individual needs based on functional deficits and strengths, risk assessment, and promoting occupational choices that balance work, leisure and self-care.
* Focus on developing life roles and skills required for community adaptation and integration, including skill development, self-awareness and maintenance of responsible time use, drug use and other behaviours that may lead to re-offending.
* Understand risks that restrictive environments can have on occupational deprivation, alienation, and the impact on occupational performance.
* Take a leading role within the clinical team on occupational performance issues, functional skill development, and promoting engagement in meaningful occupations.
* Contribute to the clinical team's understanding of the consumer and their situation from an occupational therapy perspective.
About You
* At least 5 years' experience as an Occupational Therapist (preferable).
* Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of Occupational Therapy Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
* Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
* Knowledge and understanding of the OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists Code of Conduct and commitment to working in a manner consistent with the code.
* Highly developed skills in the mental health field, including knowledge of mentally ill individuals; understanding for forensic mental health is highly desirable.
* Ability to establish rapport and work collaboratively with consumers, families and carers, multidisciplinary team members and colleagues.
* Solid conceptual understanding of occupational performance theories, including the Model of Human Occupation; commitment to improving consumer functioning through formal assessment and treatment using recognised OT models of intervention.
