Transport for NSW (TfNSW) committed to working in partnership with local government, the community and stakeholders to deliver the practical road safety initiatives identified in the "NSW Road Safety Strategy 2021"

The strategy is underpinned by the Safe System approach to improving road safety. This approach takes a holistic view of the road transport system and the interactions among the key components of that system - the road user, the roads and roadsides, the vehicle and travel speeds. It recognizes that all components of the system have a role to play in helping to keep road users safe.

The Local Government Road Safety Program (LGRSP) aims to assist NSW Council's to reduce the likelihood of death and injury from road trauma in their local community. Local Councils are well placed to plan, implement and deliver locally relevant road safety strategies. Most Councils participating in the LGRSP employ a Road Safety Officer (RSO).

Within Councils, the RSO works with engineering, community services, planning and development, communications, and customer service areas and provides links to community stakeholders, community groups, local health, Police, local businesses, etc. all of whom have the capacity to contribute to road safety over the long term.

**About the role**

This is a
**permanent, full-time position** working
**35 hours** per week (Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm) and will be based at
**Nowra Administration Building**.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

**Duties**

Reporting directly to the Senior Civil Engineer, the focus of this position is to:

- To plan, prepare and implement a road safety strategy for Council with particular emphasis on behavioral and educational programs
- Road safety planning in Council including the development, coordination and implementation of a local road safety program (to the satisfaction of Council/TfNSW), fostering existing partnerships and encouraging wider community ownership and participation in road safety issues
- To prepare a Road Safety Program that you will develop, determine, seek grant funding for, and deliver targeted road safety programs, based on relevant research, directed towards behavioural factors according to the approved strategic plan, to increase road user safety and reduce road crashes
- To help project and promote Council and TfNSW objectives for the improvement of road safety in the community

**Skills & Experience**

In order to be successful in the position, you will possess:

- Relevant Certificate or Diploma in Traffic Engineering, Traffic Planning or Community Education (with relevant experience). Similar Tertiary qualifications (with relevant experience) or extensive knowledge and experience in a relevant field such as Behavioural Sciences, Education, Health Promotion, Marketing, Communications, Sciences, and related disciplines
- Relevant experience in community programs or community education and demonstrated knowledge of road safety issues
- Class C Driver's Licence
